Dedications of the songs on CD

TRIBUTE: Recently many catastrophies have befallen our blue World. These tragedies are of epic proportions and the suffering for many is nearly unbearable. Yet, the compassion, courage and love of millions has risen higher than any flood, burned brighter than any fire and stood so strong and united as to turn back the mightiest wind and deflect the fiercest gun blast. This song is a tribute to all those who have stood strong and spread their own “Golden Wings”, and shined their light and love, sacrifices, efforts and dollars, large and small; To turn back these disasters and come to the aid of our brothers and sisters. The Human Experience has been glorified by them.

KEEP ON WALKING: Dedicated to 2 philosophers/storytellers who have inspired and taught Michael David aka David Creative (along with millions of others). They can and have flat-out made our lives better. The lyrics to KEEP ON WALKING are paying homage to these amazing human beings. Richard Curtis is one of the greatest writer/directors ever. He created “LOVE ACTUALLY”! For MICAHEL DAVID AKA David Creative, this flick is tied with “The Wizard of Oz” and “Casablanca” for the most perfect casting of all time. Plus, the soundtrack is totally compelling. MICHAEL DAVID AKA David Creative likes to see “LOVE ACTULALY” every chance he gets … It’s a great hit of life that leaves MICHAEL DAVID AKA David Creative HUGELY POSTIVE and energized toward LOVE and HAPPINESS, PURE JOY really whenever it is needed. Wayne Dyer is a genius. He has figured out how to fully develop his own powers and to share the truths he has found. He is also one of the best ever storytellers and knows so many powerful, deeply moving stories. The affect he has is profound and changed lives as he has changed MICHAEL DAVID AKA David Creative and his life. Wayne Dyer said, “Don’t die with your music still in you!” THANK YOU WAYNE.

CELEBRATE YOUR LIFE: In the best of times, and the worst there is one person you can count on to celebrate our lives and make everything better. OPRAH WINFREY to whom I dedicate this song. Michael David AKA David Creative thinks more people must love her than anyone else on the Earth. Kipling wrote: “To walk with kings, yet keep the common touch!” But OPRAH WINFREY is the all time champ! How does OPRAH WINFREY combine her success, visibility, and power with the intimacy and caring and our most cherished friend? OPRAH WINFREY has a wonderful way about her that continues to be one of our most cherished in the world. She has a wonderful way about her that continues to demand the best from all of us. It just keeps getting better, wow! Michael David, Fall 2006

SONGS

TRIBUTE

There is a time, there is a place
There is a face for me
If I should die before I rise
The sparrow flies to thee

Through stormy skies
And sudden strike disaster tried
To beat me
No Earthly fate, nor twisted hate
Or false disguise can defeat me

There is a voice, there is a call
There is a choice for me
If I should die before I rise
The sparrow flies to thee

If I should fall before my time
I’ll be just fine, set free

No master plan nor insane man
Or evil can defeat me
I’m growing stronger every day
The longer that they try to beat me

There is a time, there is a place
There is a face for me
If I should die before I rise
The sparrow flies to thee

Fly on those golden wings
Whatever the cost
I’ve seen a million things
I know that true love is never lost

No master plan nor insane man
Or evil can defeat me
I’m growing stronger every day
The longer that they try to beat me

If I should die before I rise
The sparrow flies to thee
The sparrow flies to thee

Postive Music: It exists to promote and advance positive music. Postive Music is about seeing music not only as entertainment but as a means of creating positive change in the world. We encourage artistic integrity and social responsibility. People drawn postive music often are interested in subjects like personal development, empowerment, social transformation and peace, and in creating healthy environments, relationships and communities.

A primary goal is to establish as a new musical group called David Creative a of positive msuic while providing the largest collection of David Creative's music anywhere.

What is Positive music?

Positive music is any style that conveys positive or constructive messages. It celebrates and embraces life. It is often music that heals, inspires, educates or enlightens. It is life affirming and inclusive. It may be spiritual, but not religious. It’s music of, and for, the soul. It’s not about denying negativity or problems, but rather seeing everything, and then choosing to focus on what you want.

Positive Music

The Bible commands us: “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23). Jesus also tells us: “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him” (Matt. 12:34-35). For young adults, music plays a huge role in whether or not our hearts are filled with good or evil.

Today we’re blessed to have many positive music alternatives to mainstream artists, styles, and bands. Are you a new listener to Christian music and are wondering what type of music fits your style? Check out the following list of positive alternatives to your favorite secular music.

Power Of David Creative Positive Music

In a world bombarded with negative images, on TV, in movies, in music, not to mention real life, David Creative has made a commitment to be a positive influence, by releasing Breakout. The mission is to create & compile music of a positive, motivational and/or uplifting nature and make it available under the label on CDs, on the internet, and in live performance.

The goal is to give an alternative category for families, individuals and organizations who seek positive, colorblind music of all genres. David Creative's plan includes the release of many postive music type compilations and live performance series on a regular basis.

Music Speaks Louder Than Words on a positive level has been a theme for several International Songwriter and Peace conference events including the Soviet American Songwriter Summit and the 1st annual Salute to the American Songwriter. These songs have served to inspire thousands, and are part of this 2001 CD release and concert series. Help us encourage, create and inspire positive attitudes by adding a concert for your community.

Musical genres often convey certain attitudes and themes. Pop music often speaks of love and relationships. Rock music shouts defiance. Country aches of heartbreak. Rap expresses anger. Blues communicates hard times. A new genre of music is emerging that includes all these styles but with a distinct message and attitude. It's called positive music.

From Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" and Simon and Garfunkels' new "Citizen of the Planet," to indie songs like "Waking Up," "If I Were Brave," and "Right This Moment," songs with positive messages are beginning to gain popularity across the country. Already millions of Americans listen to music that could be classified as "positive" – New Thought, New Age, Inspiring/Motivational, Ambient, Spiritual. And the Positive Music if David Creative Positive music is an eclectic blend of music from mainstream and independent musicians, presenting a message of the goodness and potential within each of us. It celebrates and embraces life. It's music to appreciate, and perhaps improve the quality of, one's life. It is life affirming, constructive and inclusive. It may, as defined by spiritual, but not religious.

Positive music often inspires and empowers people to feel good, to contribute, to bring out the best in themselves. It can now be heard on the Internet by David Creative, where he believes it will have the largest collection of positive music in the world. The vision and passion of David Creative and his positive music together with good lyrics is going to "Breakout" and show the world. It's a new genre of music to acknowledge and promote the positives of the world. David Creative's music and performances are in a wide range of musical styles — from pop, rock, jazz and blues, to folk, spiritual, Latin, and even rap — all with the desire to spread a message of peace, unity, and empowerment.

This music is not telling people how to live their lives. Its primary message is to encourage us to feel good about our lives and to open up to the greater potential that is a part of each of us.

There is a desire in America and elsewhere for more positive media. There's a growing understanding that what we focus on becomes our reality. Why not start with the kind of music we listen to? Why not create and listen to music that speaks to what's good in our lives, to what is possible, to what we all share as human beings.

Songs are like mantras. When we hear things over and over again we begin to experience those messages and feelings in our own lives. I think we're all feeling like we want to experience more peace, more purpose, more connection to the world around us.

Good versus Evil

Buddhism is Simplicity Itself

For many centuries, Buddhist monks have been sent to many areas, one by one, in all possible directions to all parts of the world, to teach their religion to others. Their only possessions are the robes they wear and their begging bowls. Many of the younger monks worry about how to survive during these trips but they all received the same very simple advice: “Spread the word, do not fear for yourself, open yourself to the world and live from love. You can achieve this by giving to the world, instead of taking from it. Study yourself, which means the same as forget yourself”.

Buddhism is simplicity itself. It is going back to basics where often problems can be solved simply, even large global problems. One of these global problems is the fight of good against evil. There is a Buddhist approach to this which is surprisingly very simple and which also has the solutions at hand. For Buddhism is based on the good-evil conflict, formed by opinions and beliefs, which each of the individual opponents of good and evil often completely contradict.

Bush and bin Laden, Both Fighting Evil

Here is a perfect example using the American democratic president George W. Bush and the Saudi-born terrorist and Al Qaeda group leader Osama bin Laden.

According to them, they both represent good fighting evil.

According to himself and his followers, it is President Bush who is representing the good, meaning freedom, justice and democracy. He fights against evil, meaning the Islamic extremists who are making terrorist attacks by a jihad or “holy war”, to stop the West invading their Muslim world.

To defend themselves, the Americans are killing Islam terrorists but also thousands of innocent Muslim men, women and even children. Apart from the biggest dramas which occurred during the first Gulf war and in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq keeps on demanding these innocent Muslim lives.

Bin Laden, on the other hand, represents, according to himself and his followers, the good, the Muslim world. He also fights against evil, meaning in his case the Americans and all of their allies, who are invading and occupying the Muslim territories, using corruption, violence and domination. To defend themselves, the Muslims kill American soldiers but also thousands of innocent western men, women and even children. Apart from the biggest drama of the September 11 terror attacks on the U.S., suicide bombers and all kinds of terrorist attackers keep on claiming innocent Western lives.

Also, Bush and bin Laden want to purify the world by eliminating evil. This was also the strategy of other leaders of world history such as Mao Tse Tung, Stalin and Hitler. They also represented (according to themselves) the good which had to eliminate the evil. Theoretically it is very possible but the only real problem here is the exact description of the good and the evil. This has resulted in one of the most important sources of why evil exists in the world and the human attempt to destroy evil.

The most frightening aspect is that everybody, including you and me, actually like the hard battle between good and evil. In every movie, story and game there are the bad guys: impolite, merciless, maniacal bastards. Because they are killing people, often innocent people, it is also OK to kill them, usually in a bloody and terrifying way. Because we always represent the good and they represent the evil, killing seems to be justified. Even in present day realistic world, the media have the “sell” this good versus evil scenario to be successful and to use this never-ending cycle of hate, war and destruction for commercials success.

The 3 Roots of All Evil

Buddhism gives us the exact description of evil. According to Buddhism, evil is no essence or substance on its own but the product of impermanent courses and conditions. The 3 roots of the end concept of “evil” are greed, ill will and delusion.

GREED is wrong; it could, for example, be the original trigger for the Americans to control the oil supplies in Muslim countries. That makes it indirectly the basic course of terrorist attacks.

Concerning ILL WILL, the old Buddhist laws say that the hate in this world is never appeased by ill will but ill will is always appeased by love. Thereby also bad memories are harboured, only strengthening ill will.

Fundamental DELUSION is, according to Buddhism, the wrong feeling of separation from the world and the people in it. It involves manipulation of others in order to get what we want, which causes resentment for both.

These 3 roots of evil (greed, ill will and delusion) only have negative results. They are also intertwined so they can not be separated from each other.

What, according to Buddhism, also can not be separated is good and evil. You will understand this abstract view very quickly. To be good, you first have to get to know evil and from then on constantly fight evil to stay good. That is also the same system with other contrary positions, such as rich and poor. To appreciate richness, it’s good that you were poor once before. Then you also have to fight the prospect of poverty constantly. Also living a pure life can only be reached to avoid impurity constantly. In good versus evil, it can cost human lives.

World Peace Theoretically Possible

To eliminate evil, it is necessary to eliminate its 3 roots, which are greed, ill will and delusion.

GREED MUST BECOME GENEROSITY, which is easy reachable. It needs some discipline and the attitude of “enough is enough”. Sharing with others should solve many problems all over the world.

ILL WILL MUST BECOME LOVING KINDNESS, meaning that is not ill will which determines that you’re always on the good side, as Abrahamic religions do.

DELUSION MUST BECOME WISDOM, which means building up self-knowledge so that you understand exactly its motivations.

This wisdom also contains the understanding that “nobody is an island” and that we all dependent on others. We are a part of each other, different facets of the same jewel which is called earth. Out of these laws of dependability exist love in a wide sense, emphasizing compassion, generosity and loving kindness. We all form a community of subjects with a web of interactive processes. That means that we are responsible for each other, even for the ones we hate, including delusion-filled terrorist and their accomplices. If delusion becomes wisdom, for example, the answer to the crucial question of why Muslims hate Americans can be found.

Fear is a Determining Factor for Wars and Conflicts

There are still more changes needed to make world peace theoretically possible.

Angriness is not a source emotion, rather a kind of smoke-screen emotion for fear. To show fear in modern culture is seen as a sign of weakness. Still, it is this fear which triggers aggression and violence. This will make you understand conflicts much better. Americans fear Muslims terrorists and Muslim terrorist fear Americans.

TAKING AWAY THE FEAR will also take away the aggression and the violence. If fear increases, so does the aggression. The solution is to tap into the heart of it all and take away the fear. Suicide bombers aren’t afraid to die because they believe in paradise. In that case it is better to put fear in their minds and take away their belief in the hereafter and the promise of paradise. If they realize that painful and terrible death is awaiting them and that this is the very end, there would be less suicide bombers prepared to die.

In all of us is a thin line between good and evil. This is why Buddhism suggests INDIVIDUAL INTER DISARMING by analysing the battle between good and evil independent of own ideals and religions. RELIGIOUS TOLLERANCE is a necessity and especially UNCOUPLING FROM POLITICTS AND RELIGION. The 9/11 attacks were obviously political deeds inspired by religion. By focussing on the intersection between religion and politics, good an evil can be better comprehended. Muslims don’t want Western colonisation and domination. Allah is their god of justice and they want to keep it that way. Separating law and religion for them is out of the question. Further more, Islamites believe that everything belongs to God so that Westerns capitalism is the complete opposite, so Americans steal from their God. To make the difference between good and evil WE ARE DEPENDENT ON OURSELVES and not dependent on supernatural forces and the help of gods. World peace is possible, more than just theoretically. Conflicts with historic roots, religions and wrong descriptions of good and evil, passed on from generation to generation, make it much more difficult.

Mourning over Terrorists and their Victims

The Buddhist attitude distinguishes the sinner from the sin. The minds of war-making world leaders and terrorists are often overwhelmed by greed, ill will and delusion. Despite that, they still have a Buddhist nature and still can realize the evil of their actions. Buddhists try to atone for them by mourning over the deaths of the terrorists as well as of the deaths of their victims. It has to be mentioned clearly that Buddhism sees no justification in the killing of thousands of innocent Western victims during, for example, the 9/11 attacks and that the guilty ones must go on trial. This is important not only for those people who suffered from it but also for the global community. Such attacks must be stopped. Also the retaliation which killed thousands of innocent Muslim victims are without any justification. The whole cycle of violence must be broken. Violence does not solve violence, it never did and it never will. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. If men keep on retaliating and avenging both sides of every conflict, destructive wars are going to lead a life on their own. That way, for example, the massive U.S. retaliation has brought on a new generation of suicide bombers and terror group leaders, all eager to play their part in the holy war. If we do see and realize the intertwined roots of all this evil, inclusive of our own responsibility and noticing the good things out of the present conflicts, it could prevent future conflicts. By studying good versus evil, world peace is possible in theory; which is still a hopeful start for our future generations and that is your and my responsibility.

Example of a “Self Improver”

Making a Good Last Impression

Making a good first impression is of huge importance and very decisive in the future relationship of a person you meet for the first time.

But making a good last impression is of the same huge importance in order to keep the relationship going smoothly, every time you leave them, over and over again.

Leaving the person behind toward the end of the conversation with a positive promise makes them look forward to meet you again soon.

It is the perfect last impression when you have taken the final goodbye with a good joke, so there is laughter, even after you have left your companion. That is how they will remember you.

Never leave people behind with unfinished business, a quarrel, negative remarks, unfair or unjustified criticism or remind them that a certain problem still exists. This would be a bad last impression that only will get worse during your absence over time. That’s because there is nobody around to defend your point of view. There surely will times when you want or leave a boring meeting or some disturbing people earlier than planned. To retreat yourself without falling into that last bad impression, here are some possibilities to end a meeting earlier with a good last impression.

Let them know beforehand that you have to leave sooner or that your presence is limited before the meeting starts. That can be done by fax, letter or email or simply mention this at the very beginning of the meeting. But be sure that you give your earlier retreat a very important reason, which others will accept as being important enough to leave them for it earlier than planned, even if it is not completely true.

Every host will understand, for example, a once-yearly ceremony, event or a critical condition of a family member in hospital as a reason to leave. That way you still make a clean getaway. But even this kind of early departure will have to be done with a positive and good last impression by a positive promise and a laugh.

This system is important for keeping long term relations going and works for friends, family members and business partners, whether you like them or not.

Paul McCartney : ”I’m Kind of ordinary”

Lennon-McCartney: a Rival Cooperation

The Beatles made history and became extremely popular and famous. They did their last world tour in 1966 but the Beatle-hits became classics and survived the hard teeth’s of time.

Almost all of the greatest Beatle hits were writhen by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Paul is in the meantime a fresh looking man in his sixties (born in …….), who we can find still working in his London office with behind him a wall flour-to-ceiling full of gold and platinum records. These records only have a symbolic value and in principle can not be played. But Paul McCartney does remember at times when The Beatles received their first golden album “Please Please Me”. They took it home and listen to it. It played all right but it was music from their rivals The Rolling Stones.

Every time Paul was writhing songs, a kind of magic was around which is a kind of destiny spiritual magic, nothing to do with God or something supernatural magic. This if for Paul himself an unexplainable magic but it sure is more than welcome and it helped him to write a long list of world hits. During the Beatle period wrote Paul McCartney almost all of the songs together with John Lennon. Although all of the four Beatles had already a very strong relationship, it gave this specific relation between John and Paul an extra strong dimension. They were both cool, enormously driven and had an intense desire to success which that could be reached by their songs. Lennon and McCartney wrote a total of 194 Beatle songs. A few more unpublished songs, they have made even before the Beatles period.

A normal writing session took about 3 hours for John and Paul. The most amazing fact about it was that after every session, they finished a complete song. About 200 days, Paul sat with John and they always had fun with not even 1 dry moment. The same magic was around out but it have to be mentioned that those two were enormously good in what they we doing. The love for music they developed into skill. When Paul brought in a song, John stiffens a bit and when John brought in a song, Paul stiffens. It became a stairway of achievement, rather than a normal plateau out. This collegial friendly competitive rivalry cooperation was healthy and brought the best out of the two writers every time again into one super product.

Still in War with Yoko Ono

The healthy Lennon-McCartney rivalry became rather unhealthy during the Beatles split and their business disputes. Both friends had decided long before on a temporary basic, to put both names as Lennon/McCartney. John’s name came first because it sounded better and it was an alphabetical order.

But with the “Yesterday” song, Paul insisted to put his name first and to break the temporary agreement about the names follow order. So at first on the “Yesterday” song, it was planned to mention “by Paul McCartney and John Lennon”. The song was original played by an unknown pianist in a restaurant where both friends often came. That’s the reason why John claimed that he had nothing to do with this song and finally alone Paul’s name suppose to come under it as a solo project. But Yoko Ono, who has been passes the legal rights and the power, refused to accept this agreement. This started a whole thing which questioned who exactly wrote the “Yesterday” song. Both friends singed every song, rather it is from John of from Paul as “Lennon/McCartney”.

“Fool on the Hill”, “Hey Jude” and “Let it be” for example, were Paul’s idea and still both names were mentioned on it. But Yoko on the other hand does publish numbers only mentioning John Lennon. “Yesterday” was the very first song which made Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney on a foot of war over author’s rights. The last words about this business dispute aren’t said at all. But nothing and nobody ever can disturbed the respect and brother love that Paul McCartney had and always will have for John Lennon, a band for eternity.

“If Linda was Alive, I’ll be Dead Meat”

The first period after Linda’s tragically dead, she dead at ………

Paul was rowing a whole year. Than he suddenly started working very hard. The album “Run Devil Run” came out which was also Linda’s desire when she was still alive. “The CD Collection of the Beatles nr 1 Singles” sold 22 million copies worldwide. Paul wrote “The Beatles Anthology Book”, also he publish a coffee table book “Paul McCartney Paintings” and black Bird Singing”, full of poetry and lyrics. Also a 2 hours documentary about Wings and a CD with Wings greatest hits appeared. Finally McCartney’s solo album “Driving Rain” came out, all of this happened within a 2 years period. After that Paul get his life power back and saw a bright future ahead.

Paul went to an award ceremony in London which gave rewards to people with courage and doing good things for others. He gets in contact with this organisation via Princess Diana. Heather Milis received on that evening an award, she herself lost a leg below the knee when she was hit by a motorcycle. Heather gave other amputees courage to go on with their lives, she was their example. When Paul saw Heather receiving that award, he notices she was so good looking. That was surprising because he hadn’t thought about another woman for 30 years while he was with Linda. A few business meetings follow between Heather and Paul concerning her charity work called “Adopt-a-Minefield” (www.adoptaminefield.org). Because of Heather’s abnormal youth, she missed a lot and didn’t know much about The Beatles. Paul helps her to hook up with the United Nations, they met Collin Powell about it and money gets collected from organisations like Rotary Clubs. Their business relationship changed into friendship and ended up in love. Paul liked Heather’s mix from toughness and being mild. Their romance gave Paul more creativity. Despite the happiness, he felt guilty. He taught: “Oh my gosh, I’ve had a wife for 30 years. Is it allowed? If Linda was alive, I’d be dead meat, she’d kill me. No way would I be getting away with this.” This bizarre contradiction disappeared together with the worry that the two have a difference in age from 20 years. Love and passion for each other conquered it all. Paul also knew that Linda would want him to be happy.

Staying with Both Feet’s on the Solid Ground

Paul McCartney is nowadays a fresh active six tier with sprinkling eyes and a great friendly smile. He won over the worst setbacks in life because he’s a fighter and never runs away from problems but solve them instead.

Paul McCartney is a Beatle forever and he’s proud of it. People who first met Paul and see him as a legend, millionaire and icon, have to be relaxed by the superstar himself. Although he is already for several years “sir” Paul McCartney, he prefers to dress in a colourful T-shirt, a bleu jeans and white running shoes. Paul stay’s with both feet’s on the solid ground by saying: “I’m kind of ordinary. I really am. I have the same joys and sorrows that a lot of people have”.

Luciana Pavarotti behind the Screens

Since Luciano Pavarotti began his carrier at the beginning of the sixties, he is grown out to become the world’s most famous tenor and attracted more attention towards the opera happening. But being worldwide famous does not always mean the same as being a socially skilled. The man behind the tenor, the superstar behind the screens can as well be a great human being as a complete opposite to that. Many superstars change their mask when they go from on stage to off stage, clearly also the case of Luciano Pavarotti.

It was only in 2003 that Belgian freelance journalist Dominique Trachet had the opportunity to get to know tenor Luciano Pavarotti as a human being to make an interview for the magazine “Dag Allemaal”. But getting to know Pavarotti in real life was for the journalist a very cold shower.

Dominique visited Pavarotti in his villa on the hill with view on the beach of the Italian Pesaro for a promotional interview. At that time, Pavarotti just brought out a brand new CD called ‘Ti Adoro”, his very first pop record. Pavarotti’s press chef had already given a list of taboo subjects to the journalist, absolutely not allowed to talk about during the interview. Luciano’s young women Nicoletta had given birth at a twin Alice and Ricardo of who the last mentioned not survived the birth. This was one of the subjects which could absolutely not be talked about. The press chef also did not allow the journalist to ask questions at the opera star about the difficulties with the taxman and the conflict with Pavarotti’s first woman.

But when journalist Dominique finally met the tenor Luciano Pavarotti for the very first time, it was completely opposite than that he expected. Pavarotti did not look well, even unhealthy, giving the impression of someone who was heavy on medications, although he just had coloured his eyebrows and his hair. Despite the fact that Pavarotti knew very well that it was an interview, he clearly didn’t feel liked talking to the journalist. During the whole uneasy conversation, Pavarotti did not even look once the journalist straight into the eyes. He was not unfriendly but just very close to being hostile. Every form of real friendliness, which he shows on stage, was just not around. Dominique did expect that same friendly tenor from public appearances, also in private, but that was clearly a miss calculation. Pavarotti did not interest himself at all at the on going conversation. Aside that, he gave the impression that he is a spoiled, arrogant and egocentric personality. The only moment that Pavarotti did show some friendliness was during the shooting of the photos for the article. But even that friendliness was obviously fake.

Also before shooting the photos, there were complications. The condition was that the journalist would sit in front of Pavarotti so that the tenor’s impressive hughe stomach should not be seen on the photos.

Still, Luciano Pavarotti did answer on Dominique’s question what he had learned during his life and carrier and the tenor said: “Modesty, something that took me a lot of time to learn”. Dominique asks him also what the tenor thought about the Peruan tenor Juan Diego Florez, seen by many as the new Pavarotti. The original answered: “I do not think that there ever will be another Pavarotti. I am as a human being and as singer unique”.

Be skeptical of anyone who says he's sick of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

Both names are among the 10 most popular search terms this year in separate lists published recently by Yahoo, Google and Lycos.

The rankings provide a window into the public psyche. And what the public wants -- despite the wealth of online information ranging from scholarly research to classic novels -- is celebrity.

"The country is obsessed with pop culture," said Nancy Evars, who oversees Yahoo's Buzz Index, a compilation of what's hot and not among users of the Web site's search engine.

Leading Yahoo's rankings of the most-searched-for terms this year were the hit television program "American Idol," reality show and sex tape star Paris Hilton and pop singer Jessica Simpson. Singer Britney Spears and the best-selling Harry Potter series of books and movies followed.

Search companies track the most popular search terms for no other reason than they can. They also share the information with marketers. Companies use the information, sometimes in daily or hourly installments, to gauge how well their advertising is doing and to measure consumer interest in a product.

Rankings are published online as often as once a week for the public to see.

On Google, the top search queries for 2004 included Spears, Hilton, singer Christina Aguilera, actress Pamela Anderson and the term "chat."

On Lycos, the people inspiring the most queries were Spears, Hilton, Janet Jackson, "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken and Nick Berg, the American who was beheaded in Iraq earlier this year.

America Online and Ask Jeeves have published similar lists, with only slightly different findings.

"It's easy to look at the list and say that it is a result of pimply faced teenage boys trying to look at Janet Jackson's" breast, said Dean Tsouvalas, who compiles Lycos' search list, who points out that 75-year-old men looking for Bible passages are also punching in requests.

Janet Jackson's popularity on Lycos soared after her infamous "wardrobe malfunction" during the Super Bowl halftime show in February. Even a subsequent drop in interest couldn't keep her from claiming the top annual spot on Lycos.

Which terms make the top 10 rankings vary from company to company, depending on the interests of their users. There are also slight variations in the rules the companies follow.

Both Yahoo, in Sunnyvale, and Lycos, in Waltham, Mass., exclude sexual terms and generic words such as "weather." They generally include plurals and misspellings in the total.

Google, in Mountain View, declined to disclose its policies.

In addition to the overall annual list, the search engines compile rankings in a range of special categories. "Ugg boot" topped the popular shoe category on Google, Usher led in lyrics on Yahoo and Evanescence was the top band on Lycos.

Of course, what's a popular query one year isn't necessarily so in subsequent years. Several terms faded from the spotlight they enjoyed in 2003.

Kazaa, the online file-sharing service, was the No. 1 overall search term on both Yahoo and Lycos in 2003. This year, it was absent from the Yahoo top 10 and No. 6 on Lycos.

The drop probably reflects the changing online legal landscape. The music industry continued a crackdown on file sharing and users of services such as Kazaa in 2004.

"We see things that are bubbling up," said Tsouvalas of Lycos.

He mentioned eDonkey, an online file-sharing service that competes with Kazaa, the Oompah Loompah characters in the upcoming Tim Burton film, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (a remake of "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory") and Atkins Diet, because many people want to lose weight after the holidays.

The golden age of celebrity rumors may be coming to an end. As Britney Spears spreads her legs to the world and Nicole Richie gets arrested driving north in the southbound lane, truth may at last have outstripped semi-fiction. Today's celebrities have so little left to hide. But fear not, scandal-mongers! The past remains a bottomless well of salacity. In tribute, we present our picks for the forty best celebrity rumors ever. Dive in. But be careful. This stuff doesn't wash off.

Kiddie idols meet grisly end

Did you hear that Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Mario Lopez (Zack and Slater from Saved by the Bell) died in a car accident? You may have around 1993, when rumors of the stars' demise spread like wildfire across the nation's middle schools. (We won't implicate our middle school by name, but we did have an honest-to-God moment of silence in English class.) Of course, the stars of Saved by the Bell are all doing fine, and have gone on to lucrative careers in amateur porn (Dustin Diamond), amateur dancing (Mario Lopez), and amateur porn-dancing (Elizabeth Berkeley). But the public's thirst for grisly death rumors about beloved stars has not been sated; in 1999, Blue's Clues host Steve Burns suffered a "heroin overdose," and just a month ago Tom Hanks "fell off a cliff."

J. Edgar Hoover cross-dressed
FBI director J. Edgar Hoover was such a mean son-of-a-bitch it's no surprise that people whispered about him. Rumors that Hoover was gay or a cross-dresser have circulated for decades; one claim comes from Anthony Summers' 1993 biography Official and Confidential: The Secret Life of J. Edgar Hoover. Susan Rosenstiel, the ex-wife of liquor-industry chair Lewis Rosenstiel, claimed she had seen Hoover in a dress, stockings, heels and wig at a party hosted by gadfly lawyer Roy Cohn. This seems fairly unlikely; historian Athan Theoharis notes that anyone as secretive and power-obsessed as Hoover would never have been so blatant about a predilection that could be embarrassing. We may never know the truth.

Milton Berle had the biggest penis in Hollywood
You can die satisfied when your enormous penis has been mentioned, even tangentially, in the New Yorker. Milton Berle got just that honor, though he'd already kicked off; a 2002 story about the Friars Club memorial roast of Berle features Freddie Roman remarking, "We are here to honor Milton Berle, who passed away on March 27th. On May 1st and May 2nd, his penis will be buried." The New Yorker story is a fitting homage to Berle's colossal member, which for many years was, indeed, the talk of the town. Berle and the big penis shared many adventures; most famously, writer Alan Zweibel alleged that Berle had shown him his penis during rehearsals for his infamous Saturday Night Live appearance. Zweibel confirmed the penis's large size.

Stevie Nicks' alternate cocaine-delivery method
Supposedly, Fleetwood Mac's gypsy songstress, hoping to spare her vocal cords from her severe blow habit, got a little help from a coke-straw-bearing groupie. Nicks tends to be pretty forthright about her history of cocaine abuse, and she denies this story. But that doesn't mean that it didn't happen. We all know "Gold Dust Woman" was autobiographical, but maybe the phrase "roadie blowing coke up my ass" didn't fit the rhyme scheme.

Marisa Tomei won an Oscar by mistake
Many critics have their complaints about Marisa Tomei's Best Supporting Actress win for My Cousin Vinny in 1992 — so many, in fact, that a rumor materialized to explain it. According to lore, the presenter of the award, Jack Palance, couldn't read Vanessa Redgrave's name on the envelope and blurted out the name of the last nominee he had announced: Tomei. Other versions claim Palance uttered the wrong name because he was too stoned to know better, or because he had a crush on Tomei. Journalist Steve Pond, who covers the Oscars for Premiere, addresses the story directly in his book, The Big Show: High Times and Dirty Dealings Backstage at the Academy Awards. He writes that PricewaterhouseCoopers representatives "have very clear instructions that if a presenter opens the envelope and says the wrong name, they are to walk on stage, stop the show and announce the correct winner." Tomei quieted the chatter (somewhat) by receiving another nomination for In the Bedroom in 2001.

Walt Disney is cryogenically frozen beneath the Pirates of the Caribbean
According to rumors, Uncle Walt was many things besides the father of Mickey Mouse: a Nazi, an anti-Semite, a communist. The most persistent tale, though, is that Disney was so obsessed with immortality that he made arrangements to have himself cryogenically frozen after death. Ever since Disney shuffled off this mortal coil in 1966, popular myth has found him frozen beneath the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in California's Disneyland. Two biographies, Marc Eliot's Walt Disney: Hollywood's Dark Prince and Leonard Mosley's Disney's World, have kept this rumor alive and kicking. But though cryogenic freezing was a popular topic in the late '50s and early '60s, there's no evidence whatsoever that Disney had any specific interest or even knowledge of cryogenics, outside of dodgy anecdotal evidence. Who knows? Maybe one day Disney will be re-animated and will go on to rule the world with his legions of cartoon anthropomorphs enforcing his terrible will. We've seen Epcot Center. It's possible.

Prince Harry's father is not Prince Charles
It was clear — and tacitly accepted — that after only a few years of marriage, Prince Charles and Princess Diana were cheating on each other. Prince Harry was born in September 1984, and after the public glimpsed his puglike features and red hair, rumors began to circulate that he was the product of Diana's affair with army officer Major James Hewitt. Diana publicly admitted her liaison in 1995, but insisted that she met Hewitt too late for him to be Harry's father. Hewitt too claims that he first met Diana in May of 1986, when Harry was twenty months old. Simone Simmons, a former close friend of the Princess, wrote Diana: The Last Word, a book serialized in The Sun. In it, she clamed that Diana was forced to carry out paternity tests on both Harry and his brother, Prince William. The tests reportedly showed that both boys were fathered by Prince Charles.

Napoleon's Bonaparte is a collector's item
A number of famous penises are said to be floating about the world, having various adventures long after their owners went toes-up. John Dillinger's is said to be in the Smithsonian, and the Russian Museum of Erotica proudly boasts Rasputin's. But the Holy Grail of infamous dongs is that of Napoleon Bonaparte. Bonaparte's autopsy was performed in 1821 by his personal doctor, in the presence of seventeen witnesses, including seven British doctors and a priest. Organs removed from Napoleon included his heart, which he requested be delivered to his wife, and his stomach, which the assembled experts agreed was ridden with cancer and the cause of Napoleon's demise. Accounts of the autopsy claim the penis was small (guy couldn't catch a break), but there's no mention of its removal. In 1916, the priest's descendants sold off a collection of Naploeonic relics that included "the mummified tendon taken from Napoleon's body during the post-mortem." The memento has since changed hands a number of times; the latest story is that American urologist John Lattimer bought it at auction in 1977. Lattimer defends its authenticity today, but it's hard to disagree with Sir Arthur Keith's 1913 argument that, given the number of witnesses at the autopsy, someone probably would have noticed if his penis went missing.
